I have a cat.

In Japan, the Ministry of the Environment, local governments, and veterinarians recommend that cat owners keep their cats indoors.

When I was a child (about 30 years ago), cats were often allowed to go outside freely, but times have changed.

To protect our cats from car accidents, infections, fights, and abuse, we now need to keep them indoors. Research shows that indoor cats generally live longer than outdoor cats.

I’ve heard that some cats want to go outside, but fortunately, mine shows no signs of wanting to. He seems to enjoy his indoor life.

However, not everyone understands this policy. My mom sometimes says, “I know it’s necessary, but I feel sorry for him.” I understand her feelings, but I believe it’s my responsibility to protect my cat.
